poetry assignment

     My theme was Life Lessons.
For my poems i chose "To this day" by Shane Koyczan, and "B" by Sarah kay.

My thoughts on Shane Koyczan's "To This Day",

To This Day is one of my favourite poems. The passion and the thought that Shane Koyczan put into it are inspiring. I find the way he says things and makes them flow so naturally even if there are no intentional rhymes intriguing. It’s meaning is not hard to find. This free verse poem is about bullying and being different, I find it very powerful and touching. I really connect with this poem because I know what he is talking about and I know what it is like to be different and bullied for it.

My thoughts on Sarah Kay's "B",
This poem is amazing. The metaphors and words are beautifully choreographed into flowing lines of poetry that anyone should be proud of. It tells about teaching her daughter to be a good person and to be strong.

Home

I think that it is so cool that some body can have a relationship that strong with where they live. To live where it is dangerous just because you call it home is miraculous. If right at this moment my home town were to have a nuclear meltdown and i had to be evacuated, i would go.

I have never really considered anywhere but PG home, but i think I would feel okay leaving it behind. Home is a moveable concept and to me, home is where the people you love are or where you are happiest. Personally I could be happy somewhere else. I can make home wherever i want it to be.

White poppies?

I think the people who started the white poppy idea meant well, but I definitely do not agree with it. The poppy being red, is a symbol of all of the    ones who have died for our    freedom, it is not promoting more war. It represents, in my eyes, the blood that was shed and the thousands of people, who didnt come home to their worried, waiting families. The white poppies are offensive to our traditions.

A beautiful poem i found about a river

River Runs Free
By
David Windle
River runs free river runs free
along the rocky ridge and down
 towards the sea
river runs free river runs free
like the wind and birds
and you and me.

As the slow sky turns
 and the deep sun burns
 and the dark earth
 rests beneath
river runs free river runs free
like a glittering seam of stars.

As the leaves draw light
from the woven air
 and the grass drinks hard
 from the frozen soil
river runs free towards the sea
like a rope of silver silk.

As the quiet fish dive
 and the birds alight
 and the jungle
 sings with life
river runs free with you and me
and the horizon calling endlessly.
